The most common question for newborn sessions | Cornwall & Ottawa photographer

Have I mentioned before how much I love newborn sessions?!? Who wouldn’t…you get to cuddle a tiny baby, photograph parents holding their new gift & chat about birth stories..don’t worry, we only talk about the good ones!!

The most common question I have heard over the years from clients is…

“when do we book our actual session date??”

It’s highly recommend for clients to get in touch with me three or four months before their expected due date! Why so early?!? I only accept 3 newborn sessions a month, so securing one of those dates is important!!

The best way to get in touch with me is by filling out the contact form on the site!

Once we have been in contact & clients have signed their contract, they have officially secured their spot…now we just wait for baby’s arrival!!

Once baby has arrived, clients are encouraged to send me a super quick text, FB message or email to let me know baby has arrived!!  Once congratulations has been sent, it’s time to look into officially scheduling your session date!

Studio newborn sessions are time sensitive & are booked within the first 7 to 14 days after birth.

While in home newborn sessions can be booked anytime during the first month after birth!

Why are studio sessions “time sensitive”? Baby’s adjust quickly to having more room to move after birth, since your little one will be swaddled during the session, scheduling your session early ensures baby will still enjoy being swaddled, is comfortable staying in a curled up position & will need a little less feedings during our time together!

After 14 days, many newborns go through a growth spurt which requires them to feed more frequently, may begin to develop baby acne & have longer periods of wakefulness!  It’s not a huge problem for studio session but keep in mind that images from the session may be slightly different considering the above factors!

For in home newborn sessions, this isn’t a huge issue, as the images from these sessions are more casual, with less prop images & focus on images of you connecting with your new baby through casual posing!
